Our commitment

Batayan is an AI-powered legal research platform for Philippine legal practice, built and operated by the team behind batayan.co. Your research, your documents, and your clients' matters are sensitive. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We only ever process your data to run the service you asked us to run.

Information we collect

Account information — your name, email address, organization, and billing details when you create an account or set up a workspace.
Documents you upload — legal documents, case files, templates, and other material you upload to research, cite, or draft from.
Research and usage data — your conversations with Batayan, search history, tasks, and how you use the platform.
Payment information — handled by our payment processors (PayMongo and Lemon Squeezy). We do not store your card numbers.

How we use your information

To provide and operate the service — including grounding AI answers in the sources and documents you give us.
To manage your account, subscriptions, and billing.
To keep the platform secure and to investigate misuse.
To improve Batayan — we use aggregated, de-identified usage data to make answers better.
To contact you about your account or important service changes.

How we store and protect your data

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to uploaded documents and conversations is restricted to the minimum necessary to operate the service, and is never used to train or fine-tune a model that is shared with other customers. We review access periodically.

Sharing of information

We do not sell your data. We share it only with:

Service providers who help us run the platform (hosting, storage, payments, support);
Authorities, where required by law or to protect legal rights; and
A successor in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

Retention

We keep your account information and documents for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service and comply with legal obligations. You can delete documents or close your account at any time, and we remove the associated data on request.

Your rights

You may access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and withdraw consent where it applies. To exercise any of these rights, email us at secretary@batayan.co — we will respond promptly.

AI output

Batayan's answers are research support, not legal advice. AI outputs can contain errors, and you are responsible for reviewing and verifying anything you use in your work. See our Terms of Service for more.

Children

The service is intended for legal professionals and is not directed at anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.
